Aave V2 Live: Interview with Marc Zeller - Decentralise #47
New features and collaboration vs competition.
Aave V2
It’s here! Aave V2 is live with a huge range of new features and improvements.
Check out the official blog for the breakdown and the V2 whitepaper for all the details.
Tl;dr:
Collateral swaps - trade your deposited collateral for stablecoins or anything else as prices move
Batch flash loans - source multiple tokens
Repay debt with collateral - smooth and simple (1 tx)
Flash liquidations - now anyone can borrow to execute a liquidation
Debt tokenisation - credit delegation now enabled
Gas optimisations - up to 50%
Stable and variable borrowing rate - switch between both or either at any time
Interview with Aave’s Marc Zeller
To celebrate the launch and get some greater insight I sat down with Aave’s Marc Zeller.
Marc’s played a key role at Aave, and he’s also one of our valued community members at PieDAO.
We spoke about V2’s new features, the wider defi ecosystem, and where we’re headed in the future.
Thanks for taking the time to chat Marc!
Let’s dive in!
1) Congratulations Marc! V2 introduces so many new features, which one are you most excited about?
2) Collateral swaps are fascinating. Can you explain just why this is such big news, and how do you see this evolving?
3) There’s a lot of focus in V2 on improving the user experience, with easier repayments and gas optimisations. Would you say that maximising global accessibility is a core priority?
4) Flash loans have made a huge impact on defi and have been quite controversial (used to exploit protocols etc). Can you share your thoughts on how the positives here outweigh any negatives, and make the space more robust?
5) I know that we have very similar political views regarding how we want defi to change the world order. How do you see our struggle playing out, are we on the right path in your opinion?
6) V2 has already been integrated with Argent, Zapper, Zerion, imToken and DeFi Saver. Do you know of any others working to integrate, and just how important is it to decentralise front ends in your view?
7) V2 integrates with Uniswap for collateral and yield swaps, can you share your thoughts on working together?

8) Last question. You guys took a major step towards decentralisation by handing over the admin keys to the community and have a really active governance forum. What are your thoughts on decentralised governance as it currently stands and how the DAO space is evolving?
Conclusion
There’s so much to think about here, so thank you so much Marc for taking the time!
Aave has been a strong leader in the defi space and V2 is a big step forwards for the whole industry. I really appreciate all the work the team are doing and their big steps towards full decentralisation. I’m also a huge believer in Marc’s vision of a collaborative, not competitive defi industry.
Make sure to go check out V2 and try the new features.
And why not join the growing community?
